           From Michael's wife, Darlene: 
                Michael is AWAKE and COHERENT now!!! He had a hard time forming words at first. He was terrified that he wouldn't be able to move and that he would never be able to walk again. I let him know that he will be walking and will be able to do the same things as before. It will just take a while to get to that point because he has to build up his muscles again. He will have to learn to sit up in the bed, sit in a chair, stand, and later walk. He now knows that he has been in the hospital for almost 2 months and that it may be about 1 more month before he gets out. He understands that this will be a long road but he is ready to "get out of there!" and has the support of many people. He can now see the posters that people have signed at Antioch Speedway and is inspired by them. We told him that we are glad that he is HERE. He told us that he is "glad that he is here too". He asked about the damage that was done to the house and we let him know that the garage door came off of the hinges but that was fixed shortly after. He was relieved. It was so nice to talk to him even if we had to read his lips. He still has the tracheostomy in and is still getting weened off of the ventilator but is initating his breaths (which is good) with a little extra support with oxygen. His kidneys are slowly showing signs of a comeback. We are just praying for full recovery of the kidneys or else it will be dialysis for life. Michael is still not "out of the woods" until he is off of the ventilator and moving around but he is getting there!! His skin grafts are almost healed!! The nurses and doctors told us that he is healing "nicely". He is able to move his arms and legs a little bit and is working on getting his fingers to work also. It's a long process but he continues to exercise as soon as he wakes up on his own and again with a Physical Therapist & Occupational Therapist.


Great News ~ Michael can watch the NASCAR races from his room!!! Michael also has teased about making the race in Tulare!

Thank you everyone for your support!! We are slowly telling him of the great things that people have done in support of him and the kind words that people wanted us to relay to him.

He is now going in the right direction!!

                Michael has developed another infection and is on antibotics. But the good news is that Yesterday (Tuesday July 1st) Michael sat up out of his hospital bed   (yeah) Michael is still battling with the ventilater.

(Thursday July 3rd 11:30pm)
                Michael's Lung collapsed again and they had to do a surgery right there in his room. Michael was awake through the whole process and was not happy about that, and let the Doctors and Nurses know it (lol).
